WALK TO THE BREAK AT PLAYA NEGRA!! Really, what more do we need to say?!

Playa Negra is in the south of the Guanacaste Peninsula, in the Northwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Touted as the best reef break in Costa Rica by The Endless Summer II, the main peak of “Negra” is a fast, long, rip-able right with often very hollow, and make-able, tube sections.

Another nearby break we will be surfing is Playa Avellanas- only a 5 minute drive. Playa Avellanas boasts four unique spots catering to a variety of surfing abilities. Two main breaks, just feet from the car, are the softer, crumbly peaks, both rights and lefts, perfect for beginner to mid-level surfers. A longboarder’s dream when the swell gets big! This is where surf camps and surf lessons will take place. A walk down the beach brings you to the Avellanas Rivermouth- an A-frame peak with long barreling sections on both sides. A short distance north of that is Little Hawaii- a powerful right that breaks on good south swells. It has a relatively mellow take-off followed by a draining tube that spins off into a deep water channel. It can hold size!

There are several nearby “secret spots” that our local surf guide can bring you to. These spots are typically uncrowned or completely empty and provide great opportunity for uncontested barrels and fun rides!

In addition, we are located less than an hour drive to the boat launching zone to get to the infamous Ollie’s Point and Witch’s Rock.

Surf Witches Rock & Ollies Point

We also offer boat trips to these two great spots

OLLIES POINT & WITCHES ROCK

olliespointOLLIE’S POINT - Access by boat only
Right point at the rivermouth with fast, hollow waves that roll on the beach endlessly breaking over a rocky bottom (hence, Endless Summer II). Take off at a series of rocks with slow entry. Best conditions at outgoing to mid low tide and south/southwest swells.

witchesWITCHES ROCK – Access by boat only. 2 mile stretch of beach with hollow sand bottom beach breaks creating long lefts and rights. Take off can be steep, however offshores generally keep the wave open and easy to surf. Best conditions with a west/southwest swell at incoming to high tide.
