April 7th, 2010:  Surf is in the 3-5 ft. range,  sunny, offshore winds water is 87! Starting to look like groundhogs day. Photos taken from La Purruja in Playa Avellans-crowd factor of a solid  2! WOW!   So nice to have a Lolas’ world famous beach bar right in front of you to keep hydrated on days like this….

 

 

April 5th, 2010: Surf is in the 4-6 ft. range with sunny offshore conditions. A few shots from this morning at Playa Avellanas:)

Happy Easter from the Wave Hosue!-A perfect Easter present SURF-presently the surf is head high, clean, sunny & waters a steamy 87. Surf should be building today into tomorrow. A forecasted large south swell is now in our window-around April 10th should light up this area. We have a few spaces left. GET ON IT!

March 19th-24th. Tiss the Season: The first real south swell is hitting! This time of year the southen hemisphere starts producing long range, long period swells & offshore conditions. Saturday Morning March 6th. Still a swell, strong offshore winds & over head surf. Sets in the 5-6 ft range. Water is a COLD 75. A wave house guest checking in on a Negra Right.

Thursday March 4th. finally, a swell starting to fill in! These photos are of Playa Negra from the evening session. Full moon high tide. Expect some super tubes at lower tide tomorrow! Water is a freezing 75 degrees!

February 24, 25, 26 & 27: Surf has been in the small in the 2-3 foot range. Small waves & Negra not really doing it all that well the decision was made to explore a little. Mikey from the Wave House took the group to explore some lesser known, yet solid spots nearby. Below are some of photos of our Brazilian guests from: Playa Avellanas, Rivermouth & “secret spot”-scoring it alone.

February 20th, 2010: 2-4 feet & playfull. Its Saturday, a few people more in the line-up than during the week. The winds are still offshore, ALL Day: its “Summertime.” Very HOT 95 degrees & water is in the 80s. Photo taken by Mikey at Playa Negra at mid to high tide: make this wave really rip able, less tubular! Super fun and long.

February 19, 2010-2-4 ft, Photos taken from Playa Avellanas this morning. Water is 80, Air 90, no rains. Playa Avellanas is 5 minutes from the Wave House & hosts a long stretch of beach breaks suitable to all levels of surfing. Right in of this wave is LOLA’s famous Beach Bar & Restaurant. They have the best Ahi and wasabi dish!

February 18th, 2010- Just another day in paradise! There is a swell running & should stick around all week. Nothing too large, just a bit over head on the sets. Super fun! The water temperature droped a bit and is a chilly 79 degrees! The air is still a HOT 90 degrese. The waer color is a translucent blue: Its like an aquarium surfing out there. Fish swimming below. Sunny skies & offshore winds. Did i say paradise already? Photos taken at Playa Negra this morning.

February 17, 2010- 2 – 4 ft with occasionally 5 ft. Offshore winds, no rains, extremely sunny & HOT. A steamy 98! Water Color a nice tropical BLUE. These photos were taken this morning of Playa Negra with a lower tide. A swell is running this week peaking out by Friday. Stay posted more photos to come.

Late January & Early February- There hasn’t been too much swell. In fact, it probably has been the flatest few weeks on record. Good thing that the beers are cold. The air temperare is a HOT 98 in the day. The Papagayo, offshore winds blowing and no rains. At least it is SUMMER! These photos were taken from early morning Feb 11th. Low tide with exposed rocks: No one is surfing! Waist to chest high.

Jan 10-Jan 20th- Surf has been no less than chest high with offshore winds. No clouds in the sky, no rain. It is summer (Costa Rican)! Air is in the 80’s; water in the mid 70’s. A few photos from this week.

 

This week I went down for a quick 6 night trip to met up with my super rad college friend Justin. It has been too long my friend. Surf was consistent- in the 2-4 foot range. Mostlyoffshore & sunny conditions prevailed. Here a few photos from this past week ending Dec 7th. The swell just started Sunday & I left Monday-go figure. Still fun!

Week in review, Nov 20th- The waves this week were in the 2-4 ft range, light offshore & sunny. The “summer” season has begun. Air temperature is in the low 90s during the days & in the low 70’s at night. No rain in sight. Pictured below is a little nugget from this week at Paya Negra.

The trade winds are now turnig offshore for the “summer” season. The past few weeks have been small with the seasons in flux. Wait no more, SUMMER is here. Expect long, hot, days & nights, no rains & offshore winds! Playa Negra-Wave of the week- end November 13,2009

Week in review ending October 30th: been small all week-waist high: Happy Haloween

Week in review ending Friday, October 23rd. The first part of the week was in the chest to head high range. The 2nd part of the week was characterized by heavy rain, dark skies, & subsequetnly merky waters. Surf subsided to small or flat by Thursday. A due south swell is on the horizon for next week! Week of October 15th-Surf was rideable all week averaging head high-4-5 feet. Clean sunny conditions in the morining giving way to late afternoon rain & sideshore winds. Water temp is 85, air temps are averageing 90 in the day and 80 at nights.

Wednesday, Oct 7th- 3-5 ft. Shoulder high with some head high. Clean Sunny conditions! Water is a steamy 85, air to match. Onshore winds start around noon. Playa Negra doing its thing!

Monday October 5th-4-5 ft. Glassy conditions in the am giving way to some side shores in the afternoon. Early morining low tides have been a bit more hollow. Swell is starting to fade a little. Air temp is a humid 90, water in the mid 80’s. Photo is of one of the guests, Greg. Playa Negra cruising along.

Sunday, October 4th-4-6 ft. Sets are a foot over head. A real low-low tide is expoising some of the rock inside. A few lucky ones enjoying it! Water and air are a steamy 87 ish.

Saturday, October 3rd, 4-6 ft. Head high, plus on the sets. Glassy conditons in the morining. NO Crowds! Lucky guest from the Wave House scoring it almost by himself! Low tide tubes!

Thursday, October 1st, 3-5 ft. Shoulder high, over head on sets. 4 guys out enjoying it all to themselves! Playa Negra, Costa Rica from the Wave House-Mikey. Water temp is in the 80s. Air temperature to match.

Wednesday, September 30th- 3-5 ft sets, occasional over head. Glassy conditions. No Crowds. Water is steamy 82, air 90! South swell is starting to show lines. Should be good for the next few weeks! Keep Posted.

Playa Negra.

Tuesday, September 29th– 2-4 ft. – offshore winds during the early morning hrs, before winds turn moderate onshore in the afternoons. Chest high n glassy. high tide 1:20pm low tide 6:25pm No people in town. Water temperture is 82! Pura Vida! Forecast for some long range south swells for the next 10 days!

Monday, September 28th-2:30pm,2-4 fts moderate offshore early,winds turn moderate onshore by the afternoons. High tide is like 11:15am, low tide like 4:45 the WEATHER is crazy; no people in town .

Saturday, September 26th-Nice waves 3-5 Fts shoulder high. Variable Wind early , but in the aftenoon onshore . High Tida 7:30AM Low Tide: 2:20PM. No people Photos from Playa Negra 12:00.

Friday, September 25th- 2-4 feet sunny, side shore winds by noon as witnesed by the texture in the water from these shots. No crowds!

Thursday, September 24th-No report-Mikeys mom was sick and needed to be with her in San Jose. Glad to hear she is getting better!

Wednesday, September 23rd-surf is a bit smaller today. Chest, maybe head high. No photos of Negra. But we have a few photos from Witches Rock & Ollies Point from today to share. see below. Water is sweltering 85 degrees!

Tuesday, September 22nd- Swell is subsiding a bit- 5 feet, head high maybe a bit larger. Dark n stormy. No rain, just dark so far. Low tide at negra. Rocks= Great Tube sections. Water 83, air temp 86 n humid!

Monday, September 21st-The swell is here-6-8 feet, head high to 3 feet over on the sets. It rained like hell this early this am, giving way to glassy conditions. No crowds, lots of waves. its ON like DONKEY KONG! Water temp 83. Air temp 90.

Sunday, September 20th, -Looks like the south swell is here! 5-7 feet & offshore! 2 ft over head, consistent. Air temp in the 90’s and water around 83! Playa Negra, slightly before noon.

Saturday, Septemebr 19th. 3-5 ft. Sligtly sideshore by afternoon, sunny; hot! air temp 90, water temp in the 80s.

Friday, September 18th- 3-5 feet. Head high, consistent. Sunny, slightly sideshore this afternoon. Solid south swell heading for early next week!

September 11, 2009- Playa Negra Surf Reprot 1-3 feet. clean in the morning. Small surf. There is s swell anticipated in the next few days.

September 9th, 2009-

Waves are fun but small. 2-3 feet with light offshores in the morning, followed by some onshores later in the afternoon.

Thursday, August 6th, 09- 8 am.

There is a swell forecasted for starting to fill in by tomorrow. As of 8 am these are the conditions at Playa Negra. Glassy n warm. Head high. Looks fun. Lets see what tomorrow/ this week has in store:(see below)

2 to 4 feet, occasionally 5 ft at Playa Negra. Conditions are glassy, very playfull. The water is around 80 degrees. Air temperature is mid 80’s. Looks fun!
