“The wave house is even nicer than it looks on-line ! This was a perfect destination for my wife and I. Not only is it convenient for surfing but it is located just close enough to the action and just far enough away as well. The beaches are natural, beautiful and safe and the views are amazing.

This house is a first class oasis in the center of of old style Costa Rica. When we first walked in we felt like we were on MTV Cribs! The surf guide Mikey made sure that we were always comfortable and also made sure we were at the right beach at the right tide at the right time. He also took pictures from the beach! Very cool.

Location, Location, Location ! Walking distance to one of my favorite surf breaks in the world, Playa Negra! Just a short drive to many other world class surfing spots! Very close to Tamarindo and Liberia Airport but accessable only by dirt roads! If you’ve never experienced the “Old Costa Rica” you really should.

The unexpected bonus we had really made our trip memorable. Since it was only my wife and I travelling together we ended up sharing the Wave House with other guests. There was a Fireman from my home town and his girlfriend staying in one of the suites and two surfers from Minnesota staying in the other one. After a couple days of cohabitating we all became great friends. It was nice to have some friends in the water and at night that we would have probably never connected with. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to meet like minded people and expand their travelling experience while saving a few bucks!

I have been to Costa Rica many times and each time has been a new adventure. I will definately return to the Wave House on my next trip and this time I will skip the rental car and have Mikey pick me up ! I believe that this is the perfect mix of the old and new. Most of the comforts of home with much better weather and warmer water. I am so glad that I was able to experience this and I can’t wait for my next adventure to begin”– Capt. Sean, NJ

“Warm water, good waves, air temp in the low 90’s, fresh fish, local food and so much more.  That is what we were expecting on our trip to Costa Rica.  Greeted by Mikey at the airport our guide/host, and now friend, our trip was about to begin.  “You guys ready to surf?” Mikey says as soon as we step off the airplane.  That is exactly what we wanted to hear. Mikey loaded the boards up on the Landcruiser and we were off.  Less than 2 hours from stepping off the plane we were surfing perfect Playa Negra.  After the surf we got back to the house and we started to realize we were in paradise.

The Wave House was beyond words.  Steps away from Playa Negra in a quite gated community with security made us all relax.  The house was huge!!! Flat screen TV’s everywhere, awesome furniture, and the pool with the sit in bar….well, that’s what I’m talking about.  Mikey took us to a local resturaunt for the biggest yellowfin tuna dinner ever for 10 bucks.  We drank beer and Elvis was there singing live, not what I expected but it was so funny.  Day two we went to a secret beach break and scored head high+ waves.  Unfortunately the surf was fading.  We looked at the swell models and it didn’t look good.  Erik saw that the Caribbean was 7-8′ and said, “what do you think?”  I asked Mikey and he says,”Lets go, it only 9 hours”.  That was an adventure.  We saw the country, San Jose; arrived in the land of reggae, the Caribbean side.  The waves were waiting for us at Salsa Brava.  Super fun with no one surfing.  We surfed, partied and came back.  Negra was flat but with Mikey’s local knowlege we still caught waves at nearby reef and beach breaks.

Mikey had the local fish truck come right to the house and we cooked Mahi fish tacos that were practically free.  Mikey took us around town day and night and found the waves for us.  I could go on and on but to sum it up this trip had less swell than we wanted but somehow Mikey and the Wavehouse made this one of the best and memorable trips we have ever had.  Oh yeah, we did Canopy Zipline, saw moneys and iguanas, wild horses in the front yard, empanadas delivered to the house, it goes on and on and on.  I can’t wait to go back.  Thanks so much!”

A recent November trip from www.TheSurfersView.com – NJ’s leading HD surf cam site.

A group of us ventured out from NJ to check out this ultra luxurious pad, hoping to score a week of solid surf. Little did we know, the best trip of our lives was ahead of us.

From the day we got there to the day we left, not only was the weather flawless, the surf was absolutely epic! Offshore winds, consistent linups with no crowds and tropical water with a fun wave for every type of surfer. Oh, of course a beach bar next to the parking lot at almost every spot.

We were stoked to find that when arriving to The Wave House, we each had our own bedroom. Between the 2 kitchens, 3 full bathrooms, luxurious master bedroom, outdoor swimming pool, free wireless internet (with great signal), magic jack phone to make calls where ever you want for free, surfboard rack for all of our boards, this place had every amenities you’d ever need.

Our guide Maykol whom entertained and shuttled us around all week was totally cool, and made our trip the best it could be. After waking us with peeing pool monkeys and a fresh breakfast with a surf DVD playing to get the stoke up, he would bring us to the spots he knew would be the best for whatever tide/swell angle we had for that day. Without a doubt, if anybody in this area had the surf spots dialed, it was him. There was not one time where he was wrong. Everywhere he brought us was always better than the other spots, and this includes shopping, local bars, restaurants, liquor stores.

To sum it all up.. this trip was all-time! Plenty of surf, uncrowded reefs & beach breaks, a handful of secret spots, great food, a five star tour guide, and by far the most legit house ever to make this the ultimate surf vacation destination. Keep your eye on some plane fares as Maykol shuttles from Liberia for free! Looking forward to another visit-Derek-CEO-TheSurfersView.com

Our trip to the Wave House in Playa Negra was a great time all the way around. We surfed every day, often three times a day. Playa Negra was a couple hundred yards from the house and is a screaming right barrel, which was good every day. And when we wanted a little variety, our gregarious guide Mikey took us just down the road to Playa Avellanas to surf Parking Lots, Rivermouth, Dead Trees or Little Hawaii. The boat trip to Witches Rock and Ollie’s Point was also outstanding. We were fortunate to get Ollies, a right point break, really good and virtually to ourselves. Nice, fast, long barrels that day. We were told by another surfer that we were joined in the inside at Ollie’s by a crocodile, but we did not see him, and that warning did not stop us from surfing until we had sucked every barrel out of the place. The one day on the trip when the surf was not working at the usual spots, Mikey took us to the “Secret Spot” which was a big, nicely formed left and right with several peaks. We did not lack for surf during the trip! The actual Wave House is nice and new (in a gated community), but the surf was good so we basically just crashed there during sessions. Air conditioning worked perfectly in the rooms. If we ever had wanted to cook, all the appliances were there to do so. There was a nice pool to cool off in between sessions. There are several good places to eat in Playa Negra and in the surrounding areas. Local Costa Rican cuisine, Peruvian, a pizza place, an artsy coffee house/lunch place, some fine-dining French restaurants. Mikey knew all the places, and we ate well. One of the unexpected highlights of the trip was our guide/host Mikey. He is very outgoing and enthusiastic. He took us everywhere we wanted to go, whenever we wanted to go. Mikey is a local guy, and we called him “The Mayor” because everyone knew him wherever we went, and he was universally well-liked, which undoubtedly rubbed off on the nice way we were treated by most everyone we encountered. Mikey helped make this more than just a surf trip by taking us to places we would not otherwise have gone, like his friend’s house where we hung out, ate watermelon, and obtained a flavor of the local way of life. We had a great time in Costa Rica, Playa Negra and at the Wave House. Any surfer who wants an easy trip in Central America with good waves, food, accommodations and a great guide/host should book the Wave House.

Best Surf Trip Yet – Thanks Everyone

Not only did we catch some great waves, we also made some great friends, thats one thing that separated this trip from many others. Between the group we have surfed all over central and south america, one thing that stands out during our trip to the Costa Rica Wave House – is the fact we became instantly accepted amongst the locals. Maykol introduced us to some great people which we intend on staying in touch with in the future. Often when you go to various surf destinations you feel like your watching your back , making sure your not taken advantage of etc., and that just wasn’t the case on this trip.  Besides the great people, Surf and Food – we also got adventurous and went on a canopy tour (awesomely scary a must do).

The Wave House blew our mind, the house is beautifully situated in a gated community 2 minute walk from Playa Negra. We have been ot other parts of Costa Rica but have pretty much confirmed out next trip will be back to the wave house and Playa Negra. Not only did everything go smoothly we booked our tickets on Friday and showed up on Monday without any issues.

The Surf was firing for the first 3-4 days – Maykol took us to some great little spots and new what would be breaking, unlike our trip to Nicaragua when just figuring out the tides was a project. The little things made this trip great.  Magic Jack? who knew – that thing is great, use the laptop at the house to call anywhere for free “Muy bueno”, no more hunting around for pay phones that dont work or calling cards (you wont get cell service).

Also this was a very girl friendly trip – My girlfriend is just learning to surf so spent alot of time watching, talking to people on the beach etc. and had a great time! (other places I have gone I would of spent more time worrying then having fun)

Well Guys Thanks Again – we are planning our next stay already.
